Filling holes and cracks at -18 °C

In one of the freezers of Barias in Roeselare – ‘tailor-made (re) packaging, storage and offering value-added services for food producers’ – cracks and holes arose in the concrete of the entrance.

It is not possible to turn off the freezers to take time for the concrete repair. This is not necessary with PUROC.

We mixed our product PUROC QF PUR with an extra amount of catalyst to ensure fast curing in the low temperatures. We carried out the repair on Saturday, and the driveway was put back into use on Monday.

Superfast asphalt repair at low temperature

Eight months ago we repaired a badly damaged piece of asphalt at Deubatec’s premises in Mühlheim an der Ruhr. It’s still looking good.

A substantial piece of asphalt, several centimeters deep, was missing in their parking lot. At a point where heavy trucks make a turn. After cleaning we applied a mixture of aluminium silicate grit and fast curing binder.

With an outside temperature of 5C the parking lot was open for traffic again within just two hours.

Cool and odourless

In the ‘charcuterie’ of a big Belgian supermarket you don’t want the chemical smells of drying PMMA’s. And you need a speedy return to business for helping the customers. Finally the temperature needs to be kept between 5° and 10° Celsius!

The cora ‘hypermarket’ in Châtelineau (Charleroi) in Belgium caters to thousands of customers every week. The butcher’s shop takes a central place and is supplied by a large meat processing and packing area ‘behind the curtains’. In this area, the floor coating needed repairs.

The traditional way would be to seal of the area and apply a PMMA-based coating by workers dressed in airtight suits. Afterwards the area would have to be thoroughly ventilated. And you would still expect the smell of PMMA’s to linger. Impossible.

Our partners in Belgium repaired the floors in the cooling cells with a primer topped with QF EPT at a temperature of 10° Celsius up to a thickness of 2 millimetres. The repairs were done and the floor was accessible within three hours.

PUROC keeps Aramis desalination equipment clean

Desalination equipment is extremely vulnerable to rust and dust. The machinery itself must withstand the corrosive effect of brackish or salt water. Because these machines are obviously operating in dry and dusty countries the output needs to be protected from contamination.

Aramis water treatment from Belgium puts its equipment in 40ft containers. The containers are carefully kept water- and airtight.

PUROC’s QF PUR coating on the wooden floors of these containers protects from rot and protects the equipment from dust seeping in.

First we filled holes for screws and seams between the boards with a layer of QF PUR mixed with ‘stellmittel’. This provides a smooth surface. Then we applied a full layer of QF PUR and finally a thin layer mixed with a tiny amount of glass pearl for a non-skid effect. Three layers within one day.

PUROC is indestructible, even applied frozen

Repairing – let alone recoating – the floors of cold storage facilities is a challenge. Turning up the heat means disrupting the logistical flow of goods and entails major operating losses. Applying coatings in freezing temperatures results in poor quality and frequent re-repairing. PUROC is up to that challenge.

Our partner wanted to show and test the properties of PUROC coatings at the facilities of Vroegop Ruhe & Co. Vroegop Ruhe & Co operates cold storage facilities all around The Netherlands. Their clients entrust them with keeping their perishables at the right temperature, which is -33° Celsius, rain or shine. The cold storage facilities are an important part of a logistical chain. Which means heavy use by all kinds of transporting and lifting gear. Repairs of floor damage is frequently needed.

Our partner decided to try a mix of PUROC screed mixed with 50% sand for deep cracks (from heavy use ánd freezing) in the concrete floor. With an addition of 2% of catalyst the mixture was applied at -33° Celsius and left to dry and harden for a couple of hours.

After one more day our client re-entered the cold storage, well dressed in their winter clothes and mittens and carrying hammer and chisel . . .

Barloworld Equipment chooses PUROC for its main technical centre

Barloworld Equipment repairs, retools and refurbishes Caterpillar mining equipment in Boksburg, South Africa. In a 10.000 m2 industrial hall damaged equipment is disassembled, repaired and renewed and finally assembled again.

Disassembly is a dirty, greasy job which needs a floor that can take a beating. Oil, hydraulic fluids, coolant and plain dirt attack the floor. Barloworld chose a combination of PUROC products for the different areas in their hall.

The disassembly area is treated with a combination of QF EPT mix with sand after thorough pre-treatment of cracks and tension areas of the concrete. For the repair and assembly area we advised the application of a smooth surface of QF EPT.

PUROC was supplied in two colours: a plain gray for the working areas and an industrial turquoise for transport lanes and walk ways.

Converse store, Roppenheim (F)

PUROC recently treated the floor of the first Converse store in Roppenheim (F). The Converse All-Star brand is owned by Nike. Nike wishes to open some 60 stores in several European countries. The All-Star brand wants to have an ‘industrial look and feel’ in its brand stores and therefore chose PUROC for its concrete floor coating.

Due to the fast drying properties of our PUROC products the first three layers were applied within 7 hours. The finishing coat was added the next day.

When preparing the floor some visible scratches were made on the floor. These were fully camouflaged by the first impregnating coat of PUROC TR MAT. Nike is very satisfied with the final result: a perfectly protected industrial concrete floor, that is easy to clean.
